As I had not done much sewing for a while I decided to start playing around with the sewing machine, just to get the feel of it again, I layerd up some acrylic felt, muslin and torn scraps of pulled lace, silk noil, slub silk all in white, cream and a very soft bronze, and just started stitching and adding scraps across the fabric, when it was finished I sprayed the work with Adirondak Colour Wash, the colours have come out much stronger with the scan, on both the natural version and dyed one, notice how the polyester thread shows up, couldn't believe I had no machine cotton at all, This one is going in my sketchbook with notes on what I did and did not like, I have started another piece around journal quilt size, will try out different fabrics, wool and silk tops, going to paint it with walnut inks, to see what happens.

I love the textures and color in the dyed piece! I have not heard of Adirondack colour washes, so I will have to search them out.
I hadn't heard of Adirondack colour washes either - now on my 'to do' list. Hope my results look as good as yours do! Can't figure out what it is you don't like about either sample as in 'notes in sketchbook - like and don't like'.

Those colours are wonderful!, but I also like the natural piece. I'm going to have to have a look at the Adirondack colour washes too....

Love the colours on this piece - the adirondack colour washes are great aren't they. I have only tried them on paper and tyvek so far (yummy on both) but I want to try them on silk. Love walnut ink as well so can't wait for that sample. Godd to hear from you again!
This is really lovely Carol, will you be using it for the altering the surface challenge? I love the textures, the painted one is fab but there is definatly something about the natural one.
I love what you did with layers, and stitching and the color! Fabulous! I'm going to have to check around for some of that colour wash.
These are some interesting pieces, really like the rainbow colored piece. Have been meaning to get some of the "washes". I guess I can't put it off any longer. Gonna have to go order some now.
I really love this piece Carol. It has such an "earth like" feel to it.
